Westerby Group teamed up with other Leicestershire based companies and The Y Charity, based in Leicester, to take on the mighty Leicester Legends for a charity football match on Sunday 22nd October. The match took place at Leicester City’s training ground on Belvoir Drive with all proceeds raised on the day going directly to The Y Charity, supporting young people facing homelessness in Leicester.
Both teams put on an exhilarating display, the game finished with the Leicester Legends winning the match 8-3.
Westerby Group, co-sponsors of Team Y, entered 4 team members; Thomas Rengger, (SIPP Administrator), Jinal Sachdev, (Sales Executive), Tom Hinds (Senior SIPP Administrator) and Sam Harvey, Managing Director Steve Harvey’s son. Thomas, Jinal and Sam took centre stage and stepped up to play against the Leicester Legends, with Tom appointed the manager of Team Y.
The Leicester Legends team included Steve Guppy, Matt Piper, Jon Stevenson, Tony Thorpe, Julian Joachim and world champion boxer, Rendall Munroe. The game was refereed by Leicester’s own Kevin Friend, who has refereed in the Premier League.
Team Y were up against it in the first half with the Leicester Legends making things difficult for them, however in the second half, Team Y scored 3 goals in a valiant attempt to turn the game around. During half-time a penalty shoot-out took place which gave spectators the chance to take a shot against the legends to further raise funds for The Y.
Goal scorers on the day included Tony Thorpe, Rendall Munroe, and Matt Piper for the Leicester Legends, and Jinal Sachdev and Joe Jardine for Team Y.
The Y is the leading youth homelessness charity for Leicester and Leicestershire. As a local YMCA they also provide other community services including a drop in centre for homeless adults, working with disabilities, a vibrant theatre, and sports and arts activities. They are a diverse organisation with over 130 year’s history in the city, adapting their services and approach to the needs of local communities.
