The Westerby Group were delighted to sponsor a summer garden party in support of LOROS. The event took place within the beautiful grounds of Markham House in Thorpe Satchville near Melton Mowbray, on Sunday June 11th, by kind permission of Lady Samworth.
One hundred guests were invited to the unveiling of a crucial new support initiative, LOROS’ Overnight Response Service, which provides essential advice, support and care to terminally ill patients in their homes between the hours of 10pm and 8am.
Supporting LOROS’ essential work
Like all Leicestershire-based businesses, we at Westerby are well aware of the key role LOROS plays in caring for more than 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland every year.
Annually, LOROS relies on the support of local businesses and the community to raise two thirds of its funding, (amounting to £6.1 million) to provide vital free compassionate care and support for terminally ill adult patients and their families and carers in our region.
Stephen Harvey, Director of the Westerby Group said: “The Westerby Group are extremely proud to be associated with this very special and memorable event and, like so many of the guests who attended, were intrigued to hear more about the challenges LOROS face and the many ways we are able to get involved and offer support.”
A warm reception
Guests left the event with a special parting gift; an evening primrose seedling which they were encouraged to nurture and grow. Evening primrose, which blossoms during the hours of darkness, is a poignant reminder of the new Overnight Response Service and the incredible work being carried out by LOROS community nurses during the hours of darkness.
Deputy Chief Executive of LOROS, Caroline Baker said, “People should feel able to choose the place where they live their final days and for many that’s in the comfort of their own home. This really struck a chord with our garden party guests, who gave the new service a very warm reception. Thanks to Westerby Group for sponsoring the event, we were able to take this message out to many of our supporters.”
Stephen Harvey added, “The Westerby Group are committed to supporting local, social and environmental concerns and look forward to continuing to support LOROS and the fantastic work they do within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.”
