Leicester-based Westerby Group are delighted to be sponsoring the Westerby Group Assam Cup at the Rutland Polo Club. The ‘Westerby Group Assam Cup’ tournament is the culmination of many days of polo ending on Sunday 30 June, at Langham near Oakham.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the wealth advisers, Westerby Investment Management and pension specialists, Westerby The Pension Specialist, have sponsored the tournament.
Steve Harvey, Managing Director of the Westerby Group said: “We are very proud to support the Rutland Polo Club that provides great sporting entertainment for all the family and helps to raise impressive sums of money for worthwhile local charities.”
The Westerby Group Assam Cup final will be held at 3pm on the Sunday with the event opening at 12pm. It is part of the national Victor Ludorum competition, which is played at different handicap levels. The Silver DNRC Cup, made and given in 2018 by Barry Witmond, is now established as the Subsidiary Cup to the prestigious 1897 Assam Cup.
A charity lunch will also be held on the Sunday in a marquee, at the invitation of one of Rutland Polo Club’s founders and Vice President, Edwin de Lisle and Mark Vyner, CEO of this year’s chosen charity, Twenty Twenty. The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, will open the proceedings with a welcoming speech.
The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur OBE will also attend as a guest of the Westerby Group.
Last year’s event raised the amazing sum of £26,000 (before Gift Aid) for the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) at Stanford Hall, Loughborough, built to help reconstruct the lives of Armed Service personnel injured physically and mentally in combat and war zones.
This year’s chosen charity, Leicestershire-based Twenty Twenty, offers help and support to disadvantaged and disengaged young people at two award winning Lifeskills centres based in Leicester and Derby.
Rutland Polo Vice President, Edwin de Lisle said: “We are delighted that the Westerby Group continues to support the Rutland Polo Club and their chosen charities.”
Entry to the tournament is free, with tickets to the charity lunch at £80 available from Joanna Burrows T: 0116 2619790 or Mobile: 07975 843325 Email: Joanna.burrows@twentytwenty.org.uk
